When is spinach in season?
Spinach is available all year round, but is at it's best from April to September.
Why we love spinach
Spinach is found in cuisines across the world – from Indian saag paneer or Italian gnudi to Greek spanakopita or the lesser-known Indo-Chinese crackling spinach (see recipes below). It's easy to add a handful to soups and stews, or use as a fresh leaf in salads. The bitter notes of spinach pair particularly well with dairy and eggs – try in a green shakshuka, a cheesy tart or pie, or a vegetarian risotto.
Health benefits of spinach
Spinach is a great source of fibre (good for boosting gut health and immunity), vitamin K, magnesium and calcium. It's perhaps best known for being high in iron, which is key for the healthy function of red blood cells, helping support energy production. It's also naturally high in nitrates, which can improve blood flow and lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels – and in turn reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
