Tell us about yourself
I ’m Jason Atherton, a chef with 13 restaurants across the world, including two Michelin starred Row on 45 in Dubai. I’ve just opened four new restaurants in London, with a fifth to come – Sael, Mary’s, Three Darlings, Hot Dogs by Three Darlings and Row on 5 – so yes, I’m busy! I live with my wife, Irha, and three daughters, Keziah, Jemimah and Athena.
Tell us about your kitchen
Our kitchen design follows the same inspiration as our restaurants: a methodical approach that creates a warm, welcoming social space. We designed our kitchen to strike a balance between a professional space for me, and one that is a home for my wife and children. We prioritised creating a perfect space that lets us socialise with friends and family. We love the large glass windows that let in plenty of natural light. Our kitchen was built just before we were hit by the Covid pandemic, so spending time in it all together was a cherished opportunity to strengthen family bonds.
How do you spend time in your kitchen?
I find the kitchen relaxing because it’s a space where I can focus on what I love to do – cooking – without distractions. Cooking definitely helps me decompress – making steak diane is always a winner for me. It’s one of the dishes I mastered first, so I love sharing it with others, and it also brings back childhood memories. I love experimenting with flavours and techniques – it’s an outlet for me. Socialising while cooking is also one of my favourite things to do, especially with my family.
When is your favourite time in the kitchen?
My favourite time in the kitchen is the evening, when the energy is high and I get to create a memorable dining experience for my family or guests, as well as enjoy great food and great company.
Do you have any clever storage hacks?
As a chef, efficiency and organisation are essential in the kitchen. Ours is designed in a methodical way, and we have plenty of soft-touch pull-out drawers.
