Our drinks expert, Hannah Guinness, shares her at-home bar tips to help you take your amaretto sour to the next level.

What is an amaretto sour?

This classic sour cocktail, made using the almond-flavoured Italian liqueur amaretto, emerged during the 1970s, and was especially popular during the disco era. Nutty, rounded and gently tart, it’s a good option for those who prefer their sours on the sweeter side.

Amaretto sour ingredients

Use fresh lemon juice to balance out the sweetness of the drink. A dash of bourbon wouldn’t go amiss if you’d like a little more backbone to the drink.

Bar hacks

Shake the cocktail well to ensure a smooth and creamy mouthfeel to the drink. Use a tumbler or old fashioned glass.
