Alice says: Can’t decide whether to have a martini or a manhattan tonight? Then have a martinez! Widely regarded as the precursor to the martini, this martini/manhattan hybrid was originally made with either genever or old tom gin, two juniper spirits with a more full-bodied, sweeter style (and often a bit of cask character, too). In this version, maraschino liqueur steps in to provide some sweetness and body, and the Angostura adds woody spice. Extremely sophisticated.
