How to make a spicy margarita... step-by-step video


Spicy margarita recipe

  • ½ tsp mild chilli powder
  • 25ml lime juice
    plus the zest of ½ a lime (reserve one squeezed lime wedge)
  • 50ml blanco
    or reposado tequila
  • 25ml triple sec
    (we used Cointreau)
  • dash of hot sauce

    Method

    • step 1

      Mix together 1 tsp of salt, the chilli powder and lime zest, and sprinkle onto a saucer. Rub the reserved lime wedge around the rim of a margarita or coupe glass, then dip in the chilli salt to cover the rim.

    • step 2

      Put the lime juice, tequila, triple sec and hot sauce in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into the glass and serve.

    Instead of hot sauce I sometimes like using a dash of brine from a jar of pickled jalapeños for this recipe.

    This was a lovely twist to a Margarita and gave it a real kick. Can use just a little fresh orange juice if triple sec not available.
