Zesty Irish coffee recipe

CREAM TOPPING

  • 25ml Baileys Original Irish Cream
  • 50ml double cream
  • pinch each of ground nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves
  • 10ml sugar syrup
    (optional)

COFFEE

  • 150ml freshly brewed coffee
  • 50ml Irish whiskey
  • 10ml sugar syrup
    (optional)
  • orange zest and whole spices
    to garnish

    Method

    • step 1

Brew the coffee using a manual pour-over, automatic coffee maker or cafetière.

    • step 2

While the coffee is brewing, prepare the cream topping. Whip together the Baileys, cream and spices (and sugar syrup, if using) until the mixture is firm but pourable – don't let it get too thick.

    • step 3

Pour the coffee into a mug and add the Irish whiskey (and sugar syrup, if using) – alternatively, you can use bourbon or scotch whisky, if you prefer.

    • step 4

Carefully float the cream on top of the black coffee. Garnish with some orange zest and whole spices.
