This blueberry smoothie recipe is written by our health editor and nutritionist, Tracey Raye. She says, "Acai berries are considered a Brazilian 'super fruit' thanks to their super high antioxidant content. In particular, acai contains high amounts of anthocyanins (the compounds responsible for the berries deep purple colour) which have been proven to lower blood pressure, slow cell damage and benefit those with heart and neurological diseases. Acai can be purchased as a pulp, powder or juice. For a sweeter acai bowl, choose frozen blueberries or strawberries instead of frozen mixed berries, as they tend to be less tart. You can also replace the water with milk or juice but that will raise the sugar levels."
