London wins the 24 hour bar build
Team London are crowned winners of Bacardi's 24 hour Bar Build competition to round off London Cocktail Week 2015.
After claiming five out of 10 top spots at the 50 Best Bar Awards on Thursday night (October 8), London proved itself to be the capital of cocktail culture again on Saturday (October 10) at Bacardi's 24 Hour Bar Build competition to round off London Cocktail Week 2015.
With just 24 hours to come up with the concept, then build and create the drinks list before opening to the public, team London – made up of captain Richard Woods (Duck & Waffle) and his hand-picked team of Andy Shannon (The London Edition Hotel), Iain Griffiths (Dandelyan), Luca Missaglia (Aqua), Nathan Shearer (Callooh Callay), and Sly Augustin (Trailer Happiness) – beat off stiff competition from New York, Paris and Singapore's best bartenders with their Patrón Tequila-backed bar. It featured distressed concrete walls, an illuminated London skyline, and cacti, seamlessly tying London's cocktail culture and the rebirth of tequila together with a nod to Mexico.
The competition was judged by a panel of drinks industry experts on concept, design, service, quality of drinks and social media buzz, but the visiting public were there to vote with their feet (read: tokens). As well as bragging rights, team London has also won tickets to Tales of the Cocktail 2016.
