Brewgooder is ‘the beer club that’s life-changing’ with profits going to projects providing clean water to communities in Malawi, who have little access to healthy drinking water. The company was created by Alan Mahon after picking up a parasite from contaminated water whilst travelling in Nepal, which taught him the importance of clean water. With its partner, Charity Water, Brewgooder’s profits have funded 140+ projects, unlocking 100,000,000 litres of drinking water and empowering the lives of 156 million people. For every can or pint sold, the company say they will provide 100 times that amount in clean water.

The website is easy to navigate and offers a variety of flexible packages for the beer subscription. You can make a one-off purchase or arrange for beers to be delivered every seven, 14 or 28 days. There are three price points: £20 for 12 330ml cans, but buying in bulk will save you money - 24 cans costs £33 and 48 costs £66. Each offering is accompanied by statistics about how much clean water you’re helping to provide with your purchase: 12 cans = 396 litres of clean water; 24 = 792 litres; and 48 = 1,584.

There are three brews on offer, which you can order as individual or mixed cases.

  • Lager (4.5% ABV) is Brewgooder’s signature beer. It has a biscuit-citrusy aroma and tastes crisp, lemony and refreshing.
  • Session IPA (3.7% ABV) is light and sharp, with a taste of grapefruit and pineapple.
  • Tropical Pale (3.9% ABV) is full of mango, pineapple and passionfruit flavours with a light bittersweet finish.

The packaging is simple and recyclable. There are no extra tasting notes or incidentals, but each can contains a short story about the company’s mission.

Verdict

Amazing value and wonderfully tasting light and refreshing beers. Perfect for summer. We all know that beer makes you feel good, but these beers give you an extra glow of satisfaction knowing that with every sip you’re helping to change someone’s life.
